Make sure to stop for some breath taking views.

Explore the countryside, visiting the characteristic villages with their winding steep streets, hidden staircases, ancient houses and wide range of unique shops. Find your treasures.

Monterchi is also close to:

  • Arezzo, where ‘Life is Beautiful’ was filmed, and where on the first weekend of each month an important antiques market is held.
  • Anghiari, a beautiful medieval hamlet
  • Sansepolcro, the home of the Piero della Francesca.
  • Caprese Michelangelo, birthplace of Michelangelo.
  • Perugia, home to Baci chocolate.
  • Casentino Hills with the lovely towns of Bibbiena and Poppi.
  • La Verna and Camaldoli monasteries.

It is also easy to reach the famous cities of Florence, Siena, Cortona, Citta di Castello, Assisi, Todi, Gubbio and Urbino.

Renting a car is recommended if you want to fully enjoy exploring the countryside. Nearest airports are in Florence (a little over an hour drive), Perugia (1 hour drive), Pisa, Forli, Rimini (1 hour and a half), Bologna, Rome (2 hours drive). Arezzo train station is a half hour drive away.

RECREATION AND ACTIVITIES

For recreation, there are many marked walking paths in the area, with picnic spots to encourage you. Stroll through meadows and beautiful ancient forests, where one can gather chestnuts, mushrooms, and truffles, when in season. The region is a paradise for nature lovers. There is also golfing, tennis and horseback riding nearby.

Shop the local markets for fresh fruits and vegetables, fine cheeses, shoes, clothing, hardware, antiques, and so much more. The market comes Sunday mornings to Monterchi.

Make friends with the locals. Use your hands to communicate if you have to! Don’t pass up an opportunity to get to know these special people and their spectacular country!

Be sure to visit the Museo Madonna del Parto, Via Reglia 1, to admire the famous masterwork of Piero della Francesca “The Madonna del Parto”.
